R.age Photowalk At Jalan Sultan

Monday, October 17th, 2011

So on Saturday I was at Jalan Sultan to lead a group of young photographers around in this photowalk session organised by The Star R.age.

At the same time as our photowalk, there was also an event whereby 50 ppl were there to paint the mural on the wall of one of the old buildings. Here are some photos from that day.

We actually had a tour guide to bring us around to tell us stories about some of the old buildings there. It’s quite shocking to hear them which I never would’ve known if not because of this. Haha

So after 30 minutes of following the tour guide, everyone was given time to roam around freely to capture photos. Some of them were with me as I explained stuff about street photography.

We went to all sorts of places.. from temples to markets.

Had breakfast there too.. this fishball noodles with minced meat was awesome. Hawker foods is always amazing. (and cheap too)

At the end of the photowalk… we all gathered back at the tents and everyone started showing their photos at the photo sharing session. Glad to be able to share some tips and evaluate the photos.

Had a short stop at the wall and talked to some of them painters/artists there.

R.age guys + Dulux guys jump! While I pose of course. haha

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Yes I am finally back home from the awesome 4 days trip to Singapore for the F1 Night Race, thanks to Sony for sending me there and allowing me to use the upcoming Alpha A77 SLT.

SG-F1 Day 1: Sony Goodies & ION

Now here are 10 exclusive shots to highlight the things happened throughout the 4 days.

Is us.. Malaysia team.. amongst teams from other counties like Taiwan, Hongkong, Thailand, Australia, Korea & Singapore.

The trip got exciting the moment we received these SGD$1288 F1 grandstand passes which also gave us access to all zones at the track.

The pass also gave us unlimited rides on the Singapore Flyer.

Which then gave us chance to capture the F1 track from the sky.

I also got to meet up with my friends.. these guys are prominent tech bloggers in SG.

Got the chance to see some of the F1 girls at the venue.. though not many.

One of my favorite shots from the trip. That’s me shooting the track. Captured using Sweep Panorama feature on the Sony A77. CLICK ON THE PHOTO OR HERE TO ENLARGE!

Of course the main thing about the trip was to be able to shoot F1 in action and the cars zooming past with blazing loud sounds that could break the eardrums instantly…

… and I got to see LINKIN PARK for the first time in my life right in front of my eyes. It was AMAZING.

So there you go. That basically sums up everything. Thanks Sony I enjoyed myself. DETAILED POSTS WITH MORE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS SOON!

Continuing from the R.age Photowalk outing to Pudu Market..

We were done with shooting people, scenes and the houses. Rain stopped and it was time to go back to the meeting point to join the rest.

As we were walking, we saw this uncle touching himself.

We quickly ran across the road and entered the backlanes.

It rained again. We had to wait under the shelter for a while.

Got them to try some fast shutter macro photos. Attempted to capture the water droplets and splash.

Rain stopped again. Snail came out to catch some fresh air. Hehe

Last shot before we say hello to the rest of the group.

Pudu: The Market, The People

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Previously, on ‘Scenes From The Market‘…

I brought the girls up to 1st floor of the old shop houses and they saw a scene they had to snap….

This was what they saw.

The old balcony. People were still staying there and clothes were hung everywhere. It was raining too.

Another view. Taken at 11mm f5.6

Then we went down again to the market. It was raining so heavily we couldnt go anywhere but to linger at the area trying to find something to shoot.

This monk was also standing there waiting for the rain to stop.

An uncle then talked to us asking us which school we were from.. haha.

Went out of the market when the rain stopped. A friendly old man was walking alone.. so I talked to him a little and he posed for me.

MORE TOMORROW!

Scenes From The Market

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Continuing from my previous post on R.age Photowalk to Pudu Market… here are more photos!

As we were near to the entrance of the market, Amy stopped and started snapping this pair of shoes thrown to the side of the street.

We finally entered the market and I advised them not to forget to capture people’s expressions and little details.

Again, I showed them how to talk to the people and get them to naturally pose for the camera.

We then entered the meat section. Roasted pork for sale!

This guy was chopping the raw meat happily. heheh

Then I got the guys to follow me up to the 2nd floor of the shophouses cos I’ve been there before and knew there was a scene they shouldnt miss.

They saw it and was snapping non stop.

What was the thing they saw? Stay tuned to the next post :D

R.age Photowalk To Pudu Market. Showing The ‘Old’ To The ‘Youngs’.

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Many months back @thestar_rage organised a photowalk outing for readers who wants to learn photography and is new to cameras and photowalks. Many has registered but there were only spots for 15 people.

They contacted me, Jason Lioh and Robin Wong and requested for us to guide these young people who were interested in photography in this photowalk. We were more than happy to guide and share some tips with them.

We met up at Pudu LRT station and introduced and got to know each other.

Then we were separated into 3 groups and went own ways to explore the old and still very alive Pudu Market. In my group were Nicholas, Amy and Phyllis.

As we walk towards the market, we took some photos along the way. Here I told them to snap the roadsigns as they symbolize the area and usually people love taking roadsigns. That’s Nicholas in action.

Amy then took some as well. Suggested her to take some close up shots to show the details of the sign.

This photo was taken as a demonstation on how to talk to strangers and get them to pose for our photos naturally.

Fuh.. Phyllis and Amy non stop snapping everything in sight. Hehe..

“Don’t miss out old people sitting or standing alone!” I still remember what I told them. lol

A photo I took to show them what I meant.

OK MORE TOMORROW! Check out my POPVID 17 as I have videos of the photowalk featured in that episode.
