Love Thai Food? ‘Baan Rao’ In Aman Suria Has Something To Offer That You Cannot Find Elsewhere

Let me begin by saying “I love Thai food”. I’ve been having a lot of Thai food lately (not sure why but so ngam everything happened at the same time lah) and one of the restaurants I visited was ‘Baan Rao’ at Aman Suria, PJ.

To be honest, I expected it to look like some street food place like Go Thai in SS2 but when I arrived, it gave me an impression that I was under dressed. I was in Tshirt and short pants the other day.

Just look at the photo above and you’ll know what I mean. But when I went in, I have a totally different vibe about this place! Most of the customers were families and humble looking people. Haha! So I immediately felt more comfortable being there.

So according to some stories I heard, Baan Rao started off as one of those Thai hawker stalls at the cornershop of the same row. They now took over 2 shoplots that used to be a ‘gastro bar’, whatever that means.

OK let me show you some food I had that night.

The first thing I had was ‘Moo Ping’. It’s actually grilled pork fillet and is very famous in Thailand. It was so juicy and flavourful we ordered another round.

How can we dine in a Thai Restaurant but not order Green Curry Chicken right? The curry is thick and milky. Not super spicy, which is the way I like it. I can say that it’s one of the yummier ones I’ve tried among many places in KL. RM23.

This is Grilled Pork Neck. The meat is very tender and it actually tastes like ‘Bak Kwa’… you know the dried meat people eat during Chinese New Year. Dipping it in the chili-soya combo sauce makes it even more exciting.

THIS! This one you cannot find else where. It’s one of their signature dishes yo! The Sour & Spicy Curry Fish comes in boiling curry alongside diced vegetables like cauliflowers and carrots. SUPER SPICY. Be warned. RM55.

The Deep Fried Fish Cakes, they cost RM15. They tastes a bit like Otak-Otak. The outer later would taste better if its crunchier but this is good enough for me.

In case you crave for the complete Thai experience, they serve CHANG and SINGHA beers as well for RM12.9 per bottle. 🙂

Desserts? We had the Coconut Ice Cream. It’s not the same as those sold at Sangkaya. This one, it is creamier and smoother. The toppings, according to them… is a combination of tidbits resulted from their many experiments in trying to add more ‘oomph’ to the overall taste. RM8.

Overall, I would say that this is a good place to enjoy authentic Thai food. The cooks are all from Thailand by the way.
They have lunch sets as well, if you need some Tom Yam Fried Rice, Pad Thai or Glass Noodles.
